1. Reading the Coast: Remember Carmen San Diego? Where is this picture from? What details from the picture give you clues about the place and the ecosystem? Are there identifiable ecosystem services?
2. Humans Did It: When we say that “natural resources” and “environmental issues” are cultural constructs, what do you suppose we mean?
3. 21st Century Coastal and Marine Issues: From the resources and from your knowledge, what are the big issues facing us over the next 10 years? What about the next 100 years? (remember the “marine” will also refer to really big lakes, which technically is lacustrine)
4. Integrated Coastal Zone Management: ICZM sounds good in principle. Or does it? Is it necessary? Is it likely to be successful? What are the obstacles, particularly on the “integrated” theme?
